Clothe yourself with Christ.

And another thing! June 24, 2025
27 As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Every morning, I look at my schedule while I figure out what I’m going to wear. Will I need dressy shoes or comfortable ones? Do I need my rain jacket? Will I be mostly in the office, out visiting, or doing something else entirely? The clothes I choose say something about my expectations for the day and the image I want to project.
Galatians reminds me that we also wear Christ. When we were baptized, we put on Christ like a cloak that never comes off. We symbolize this sometimes in baptismal robes or gowns. The robes worship leaders wear are white to remember our baptism.
How does one put on God in the morning? Or at night to go out? How do we remember constantly that we are God’s presence in the world, whether we are ready or not? The cross that marks our foreheads is real, whether or not it’s visible.
I tend to think of it as wearing a Jesus-y bumper sticker. Or a ring, like a wedding ring, that’s a visible, tangible symbol of a relationship. When others know that we are linked with Christ, or Zion Lutheran Church for that matter, we represent to them what that means. We also remind ourselves that we’re linked with God. It’s a holy thing to remember at the start of a tough meeting that we are not alone. We are better and do better than we could do by ourselves; God is with us and in us. Sometimes, we might show ourselves and the world that God loves a good sinner, too. Those moments happen. God doesn’t give up on us.
When you put on your shoes, I hope you’ll remember that you’ve also put on Christ. Christians wear our hearts on our sleeves, showing the goodness and joy of God.
