Snack Pack Ministry

SNACK PACK MINISTRY

The Snack Pack Ministry is similar to other “backpack” ministries offered by local churches that provide bags of food to needy school children to provide them with snacks over weekends and holidays during the school year.  Many students rely on the free and reduced breakfasts and lunches provided in public schools for the majority of their nutrition.  Snack Packs helps ensure they have enough food during those times when school is not in session.

Zion Lutheran Church, in partnership with St. David’s Lutheran Church, provides Snack Packs to Oak Grove Elementary School in Lexington, South Carolina during the school year.  We are currently delivering approximately 120 bags per week to Oak Grove!!

We prayerfully encourage and request:

  • donations of food items (list below),

  • monetary donations (just note “Snack Packs” and make your check payable to Zion Lutheran Church)

  • assistance in packing and delivering the bags.

This school year, Zion will provide weekly bags of food during the months of September, November, January, March and May. The bags are deliver to the school each Friday morning, unless the school schedule requires a differnt delivery date. We usually pack a full month of Snack Pack bags the last Sunday of the month prior to our scheduled delivery month in the Snack Pack Room (Room 103 of the main church building).

We can always use more help!!  It doesn’t take long, and it’s a fun way to give back while getting time to chat with fellow church members.  If you are interested in participating in ANY WAY with Snack Packs, please email Betsy Burn for more information!!
